Phenylpiracetam (Phenotropil) 100 mg x 30 capsules
$24.95 – $79.84
Phenylpiracetam (Phenotropil) is a racetam nootropic derived from Piracetam where the only modification is the addition of a phenyl group to its structure. This addition makes it more potent and energizing due to a closer resemblance to a phenethylamine substance, such as Adderall.
Phenylpiracetam is one of the most potent nootropics that are available on the market today. Phenylpiracetam is up to 60 times more powerful than the original Piracetam, has better neuroprotective properties, and enhances physical performance. For all these reasons, phenylpiracetam is rapidly gaining prevalence among nootropic users.

What is Phenylpiracetam?
Phenylpiracetam ((R,S)-2-(2-oxo-4-phenylpyrrolidin-1-yl) acetamide, Phenotropil, Fenotropil, Carphedon, Fonturacetam) is a water-soluble nootropic in the racetam class of compounds. Phenylpiracetam was created by adding a phenyl group to Piracetam by Russian scientists in 1983. It was developed as a nootropic to boost cognition, and to improve physical stamina.
It turns out that Phenylpiracetam is very effective in boosting athletic performance. It provides significant stimulatory effects and helps you resist cold. Leading to a ban by the World Anti-Doping Agency from use by athletes in the Olympics and other professional sports. Russian cyclist Anton Reshetnikov was suspended in 2007 for 2 years from the International Cycling Union for using Carphedon. One year earlier (2006), Russian Olympic athlete Olga Pyleleva lost her silver metal for using Carphedon.
Carphedon is a brand name for Phenylpiracetam. Adding a phenyl group to Piracetam boosts the bioavailability of Phenylpiracetam. It easily crosses the blood brain-barrier and is considered 20 to 60-times more potent than Piracetam. Phenylpiracetam has been shown to enhance alertness, focus, memory, and learning. It reduces brain fog, and it provides physical stamina and cold tolerance while combating physical and mental fatigue.
The Russians developed Phenylpiracetam while looking for a more potent racetam with a larger scope of benefits. Another reason for its development is the search for a drug, which can boost physical and mental stamina. It appears that the Russians reached their goal since the drug can benefit anyone in these areas.
Phenylpiracetam can benefit two major neuronal systems in the brain – acetylcholine and glutamate. Both are partially responsible in forming memories and performing cognitive functions. It also has a positive effect on neurotransmitters, like dopamine. It has a relative nootropic effect to acetylcholine and glutamate.
How Does Phenylpiracetam Work?
While the benefits of supplementing phenylpiracetam have been demonstrated inside and outside the lab, its exact mechanism of action is not fully understood. There is evidence that it has direct affinity for nicotinic cholinergic receptors, and may also increase the concentration of NMDA-glutamate receptors (although not directly associated to them)
Phenylpiracetam’s energy boosting properties likely exist due to its close resemblance those of phenylethylamine, an organic compound which is known for its stimulatory effects. The benzene ring of the phenyl group likely also increases the affinity for neurotransmitter (norepinephrine and dopamine) transporters.
Additionally, this supplement appears to have mood modulating properties. Through altering the levels of various transmitters that include NDMA, GABA, acetylcholine and dopamine, this supplement is able to reduce stress and anxiety. This trait can be useful in helping to calm pre-test nerves or in reducing mental and physical stress.
Since Phenylpiracetam resembles Piracetam, it does have many of the same effects. Phenylpiracetam benefits range from improving athletic performance to enhancing cognition. Learn some Phenylpiracetam uses below.
Enhance Cognition – Research conducted in Russia shows that Phenylpiracetam may help to improve cognition as well as age-related cognitive decline. Anecdotal evidence suggests cognitive benefits for young, healthy individuals as well, including focus, clarity, and alertness. Animal research suggests that Phenylpiracetam may have mood-boosting properties.
Prevents Anxiety & Fear: Phenylpiracetam helps reduce symptoms of anxiety and fear. Unlike popular prescription anti-anxiety and anti-depressant drugs, Phenylpiracetam has no sedative action or other adverse side effects associated with these medications. A study that focused on anxiety as a symptom of stroke found that phenylpiracetam was an effective tool for recovery. While some other racetams have this as an off-hand property, phenylpiracetam is used for this purpose if anecdotal reports are to be believed.
Neuroreceptors: Phenylpiracetam increases the density of acetylcholine (Ach) , NMDA , GABA and dopamine receptors in the brain. More receptors mean more binding sites foro neurotransmitters that affect memory formation, cognition, sleep and mood.
Cerebral Circulation: Phenylpiracetam increases blood flow in the brain. As a derivative of Piracetam, this nootropic has the same mechanism of action when it comes to blood flow. It suppresses the constriction of blood vessels allowing the freer flow of blood. More oxygen and nutrients get to brain cells boosting alertness, cognition, focus and mood. This increase in receptor sites for GABA, choline and glutamate affects levels of the calming neurotransmitters GABA and serotonin in your brain. Phenylpiracetam floods your brain with the neurochemicals you need to chill out.
Improve Athletic Performance: Phenylpiracetam is also great for working out and enhancing athletic performance. It reduces the negative effects of stress on your body, which is invaluable for an athlete, increasing stamina, recovery, and endurance. This increased tolerance to stress also includes increasing your body’s tolerance to cold.
Animal research and anecdotal evidence suggests that Phenylpiracetam can improve physical performance by increasing stamina and cold-weather resistance. The Olympic Anti-Doping Agency has banned the use of phenylpiracetam for their athletes for these properties.
Phenylpiracetam Side Effects
Much like the other nootropic supplements, Phenylpiracetam is generally considered to be safe and well tolerated. It does not appear to exhibit any drug interactions, although certain individuals including nursing and pregnant women should not use this supplement due to a lack of research on side effects in these groups. Furthermore, Phenylpiracetam is not physiologically addictive although there are some reports of psychological addiction.
A majority of side effects seen with Phenylpiracetam are common to other ractem supplements. These side effects are:
Insomnia: People who take phenylpiracetam too late in the evening or afternoon might be unable to get quality sleep due to these effects.
Headache: Some people struggle with a headache due to a lack of acetylcholine. This can easily be remedied by Alpha GPC.
Some people have other side effects such as overstimulation or jitteriness, nausea, or irritability.
When a user experiences phenylpiracetam side effects similar to overstimulation or irritability, it may be a sign to reduce the phenylpiracetam dosage rather than quit outright.
A typical dose of phenylpiracetam ranges from 100-200 mg per dose, taken up to three times a day. Due to its potent effects, it is recommended to start at the lower end of the dosage range and then increasing if necessary.
Tolerance to phenylpiracetam is reported to develop relatively quickly. Therefore, it is not advised to take it as a daily supplement but instead as a tool to augment your abilities when you need it the most or to cycle it periodically.

Phenylpiracetam Improves Cognition
The benefits of phenylpiracetam are especially useful for studying and learning. Its stimulating nature is great for an otherwise sleep deprived cram session, pretest focus aid, or just a general cognitive study enhancer. Its effects on memory allow for complete retention enhancement.
A study done by Russian researchers investigated the effects of Phenylpiracetam on cognition. 99 adults aged 40 – 60 suffering from cognition deficits due to surgery or brain trauma were enrolled in this study. Volunteers were given 200 mg of Phenylpiracetam daily for 30 days. The researchers found that those using the nootropic showed a significant improvement in motor coordination, higher brain function, memory, attention and counting. And a reduction in both anxiety and depression.
Phenylpiracetam Boosts Cerebral Circulation
Researchers in Moscow recruited 400 patients suffering from ischemic stroke. This is the most common type of stroke where blood vessels carrying blood to the brain are blocked by a blood clot. Half of the group received 400 mg of Phenylpiracetam daily for a year. The control group got a placebo. The research team found that the group who received Phenylpiracetam experienced a significant restoration in cognitive function, and resumed daily activities. Far better than the control group who took a placebo.
Phenylpiracetam Improves Focus
As a stimulant, the drug can stimulate mental and central nervous system activities. It promotes wakefulness, energy and focus. Caffeine is also a stimulant, as it increases attention. It lets you stay awake for a longer time.
A study showed that phenylpiracetam was so stimulating to the brain, it created sleep disturbances for the participants . This is assuredly not proof of the concentration and focus benefits, but this is a similar symptoms as many other smart drugs that tout the same thing.
In any case, the anecdotal reports fill in many of the gaps for phenylpiracetam. Supposedly, people use phenylpiracetam for focus often in order to get more from their work. Compared to caffeine and any other racetam, it is stronger even if it lasts a shorter period.
Phenylpiracetam Improves Tolerance to Physical & Mental Stress
Phenylpiracetam can improve physical and mental stamina. In fact, this benefit is one which other drugs in the class can’t provide. Research shows that it reduces tolerance to physical stress and drastic temperature changes (cold). Its adaptogenic properties are also beneficial for some users.
Apart from improving tolerance to physical stress, it is also good for athletes. Evidences suggest that the drug has mild stimulating effects on the mind and body. It can even boost physical and mental performance. Although it only has mild benefits to physical performance, these are already enough for athletes. Its positive effects on physical performance are also the reasons why other professional sports leagues and the Olympics ban its use.
