Turmeric Curcumin with BioPerine

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been used in India for millennia as a spice in curry, as well as for its powerful medicinal properties. In fact, it may be one of the most powerful herbs on the planet. Turmeric is a root which is dried and ground into powder for use. It gives curry the rich, yellow color, not to be mistaken for curry.

What’s the Difference between Turmeric and Curcumin?

The medicinal properties found in turmeric are bioactive compounds called curcuminoids. Of all the curcuminoids, the most magical is curcumin. It’s the curcumin in the turmeric that is credited with dozens of health benefits and medical cures. This bright yellow root has beenused down throughout the centuries in Ayurvedic medicine for everything from viruses to sprains. It’s no wonder then that we extract curcumin from turmeric to use as a natural medicine and supplement.

First Extraction of Curcumin in 1815

A typical turmeric root is made up of about 2 to 5% curcumin. Therefore, large amounts of this root are required to extract sufficient curcumin to be of medicinal benefit. Thus, the first time curcumin was isolated from turmeric was in 1815. Moreover, the scientific research on this wonder herb has exploded ever since. It wasn’t until 1910 that its full chemical structure was accurately mapped out.

Spice VS Medicine

For flavor enhancement, turmeric is excellent used as a spice. However, when it comes to medicinal purposes, curcumin extract is where the potency lies. It has a wide spectrum of uses because it works on multiple pathways simultaneously. The amazing curcumin is like a first aid arsenal and a group of multiple nutrients working synergistically. But, it’s all wrapped up in one spice.

Why BioPerine?

Curcumin is not easily absorbed into the bloodstream when taken alone. However, scientists discovered that by coupling it with black pepper, the absorption rate multiplied by 2000%. Piperine is the active compound in pepper that helps transport curcumin. As a result, the combination of piperine and curcumin is able to pass through the blood brain barrier to be fully utilized by the body. This is why we add BioPerine to our turmeric curcumin. In addition, curcumin is fat soluble, so it’s a good idea to take it with a meal that contains some fat. Fat and piperine aid the assimilation process. Without piperine, curcumin is ineffective.

Many Health Applications

We can enjoy some of the benefits of turmeric by using it as a spice in our food. However, most of the studies on this herb use extracts containing 1 gram of curcumin per day. It’s difficult to approach this level using turmeric only as a spice. Each capsule of the Turmeric Curcumin and BioPerine formula contains 650mg of Turmeric Curcumin with 95% standardized curcuminoids per serving (highest potency) and 5mg of BioPerine (black pepper) for enhanced absorption and bio-availability.

Chronic Pain

All forms of chronic pain have two things in common —inflammation and cellular damage. Curcumin offers a natural solution through its ability to inhibit COX-2 enzyme activity and stop cellular damage from free radicals. Therefore, it’s one of the best choices for pain relief as well for encouraging the body to heal itself. This herbal root is effective at reducing inflammation throughout the body which stops pain right at the source.

Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune diseases trick the body into attacking itself. It’s the immune system gone rogue. White blood cells attack the joints, inflame synovial tissue and eventually wear away the joint structure, if left untreated. A disruption to the synovial fluid reduces the non-bone joint structure and the body’s ability to form new bone tissue. The conventional treatment of anti-inflammatory drugs can create further problems due to side effects. These include: stomach damage, lower resistance to infection and cardiovascular risk.

On the other hand, curcumin repairs cellular damage and prevents oxidative stress. Its immune system modulation ensures that the immune system only responds to real threats. It heals tissues rather than masking symptoms.

Inflammation, used appropriately by the body’s immune system to fight off bacteria is a good thing. But, when it becomes chronic and is deployed against the body’s own healthy tissue, inflammation can literally be a pain. The scientific community now believes that chronic, low-level inflammation is the root problem behind almost every chronic Western disease. This list is long and includes Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, etc. Providentially, ithappens that curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory. It inhibits many of the molecules that play major roles in inflammation and is powerful enough to match anti-inflammatory drugs —without the side effects.

Recently, a new understanding of cancer led to identifying markers that show the potential for the disease. Since cancer takes years to develop, this is a vital step in its prevention. What begins as a small cellular anomaly spreads and grows as it is fed by inflammatory or oxidative stressors. With time, these cells turn into tumors. However, curcumin has been shown to prevent and restrict the formation of malignant tumors. How?

Curcumin Wakes up Tumor Suppressors

There are tumor suppressing genes in our bodies. Cancer cells can turn these genes off to allow malignant tumors to continue to grow uninhibited. Research shows that curcumin arrests cancer by waking up the latent genes and calling them back into action to suppress the growthof tumors. Furthermore, another action curcumin uses is to stop the initiation of cancer cells, stopping changes that cause normal cells to become cancerous.

Prostate Cancer

Research points to curcumin as a potent preventative of prostate cancer when it’s caught in the early stages of development. In prostate cancer in particular, the body’s detoxifying enzyme, glutathione S-transferases are usually deficient. Because even a slight deficiency increases the risk of prostate cancer, any way to boost this enzyme is of great benefit to the prostate cancer sufferer. Amazingly, curcumin does just that. It increases GST in prostate tissue, induces protective phase 2 enzymes in prostate cancer cells and boosts the activity of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and other stress-reducing enzymes. These are very encouraging signs for the future of curcumin.

Breast Cancer

Tumor metabolism is induced by inflammation. Then DNA is damaged and replicates into tumors. Studies have shown that curcumin not only reduces inflammation but also has a direct effect on inhibiting tumor growth. Most noteworthy, curcumin induces direct apoptosis (programmed cell death) in breast cancer cells. In liver, lung, pancreatic and skin cancer, curcumin has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and influence healthy cell growth.

The Four Pathways

Curcumin exhibits the four key pathway requirements for cancer treatmentthat researchers look for.

  1. Encourages apoptosis (cell death)
  2. Differentiates between cells – discerns between cancer cells and normal cells
  3. Inhibits cellular proliferation of cancer cells
  4. Anti-angiogenesis – cuts off blood supply to cancer cells

Although the most common anticancer drugs are not able to cross the blood brain barrier, curcumin is.

Heart Disease

Curcumin prevents blood clots, reduces bad cholesterol, and removes plaque buildup in the arteries. One of the best things it does for your heart is to improve the function of the endothelium, which is the lining of the blood vessels. Endothelial dysfunction is a major contributor of heart disease. It leads to irregular blood pressure and blood clotting. But, curcumin has been proven to work as well as the drug Atorvastatin. It also reduces inflammation and oxidation, both very important in regard to heart disease.

Studies show that turmeric curcumin moderates insulin levels, improves glucose control and even boosts the effect of diabetes medications. It actually regulates blood sugar levels and prevents the proliferation of fat cells to re-establish a healthy metabolism. This is great news for many Americans who suffer from diabetes and obesity. These two epidemics often go hand in hand.

Turmeric Curcumin and Weight Loss

It may be hard to believe but this herbal orange root can stop the cycle of weight gain and diabetes. Research shows that curcumin resets the body’s metabolization and stops excessive fat production. Inflammation is one of the causes of obesity as well as diabetes. It’s also a result of excessive fat because fat cells release cytokines (white blood cells) in response to stressors.

Fat Growth is Like Tumor Growth

In fact, adipocyte growth (fat growth) occurs the same way as tumor cell growth — via angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels that “feed” fat cells. In other words, counting calories is less important than stopping the expansion of fat cells. With this, turmeric curcumin can help.

In another study, even when subjects were on calorie-dense diets, curcumin interrupted the process of fat growth. Also, in a laboratory study of animals that were on a high fat diet, curcumin supplementation prevented the increase of adipose (fat) tissue and also reduced fat deposits in the liver.

This showed that curcumin noticeably inhibits two of the major genetic factors in fat cell creation — PPAR-gamma and C/EBP-alpha. So, at a molecular level, turmeric curcumin stops fat growth. Even when food intake isn’t reduced.

Curcumin has the incredible potential to replace antidepressant medication. It could be used as a natural and safe alternative by people who suffer from depression. There is also some evidence that Curcumin can boost the brain neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, which help with movement, calmness, focus and mood control.

Brain Disorders

By boosting levels of the brain hormone BDNF, Curcumin helps increase the growth of new neurons and fight various degenerative processes in the brain that come with age. With our supplement, you’ll see a difference in your memory and concentration, and overall brain function.

Digestive Disorders

Curcumin supports the stomach lining. Not only does it enhance the taste and color of curry dishes, but its long-lasting popularity is due in part because of its soothing effect on digestion. In a study, scientists tested the protective effects of turmeric on the lining of the stomach against acidic preparations used to induce stomach ulcers. Before the acidic preparations, a preparation containing turmeric essential oils was administered. The turmeric curcumin protected the cells in the stomach and damage was reduced. In conclusion, turmeric also appears to offer some impressive protection for stomach ailments.

During an allergic response, the immune system is overreacting and out of control, causing sneezing, itchy eyes, and other discomforts. The body produces mast cells that attach themselves to immune system cells and the mast cells release histamine. That’s what causes inflammation, redness and itching. Every year in the US, 17 million adults and 9 million children suffer from seasonal hay fever or rhinitis. Over-the-counter meds may help but they also include side effect like fatigue, mental fog and irritability.

Pre-empt that Out-of-Breath Feeling

Another cause of respiratory symptoms is house dust. It can cause bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, and chronic rhinitis. The immune system responds to these allergens with a flood of inflammatory cytokines. These inflammatory markers cause the bronchial airways to narrow and tighten. This is what happens in an asthma attack. When mucous is produced, it causes an “out of breath” feeling.

Fortunately, turmeric curcumin can stop allergy and asthma symptoms before they begin. In a study, the herb greatly reduced airway constriction and the inflammation marker in lung tissue. Research also shows that it relieves allergic conjunctivitis, suppresses inflammation of the eyes and dramatically reduces the inflammatory markers associated with hay fever and asthma. Curcumin also reduces the responses brought on by latex allergens.
